I crumbled during my first week at university. After visiting every faculty and finding no relief, I moved beyond the confines of education in search of happiness, and what I discovered was that there is a big world out there. I came to the conclusion that I enjoyed — above all else — singing, creating. I then placed an ad in the local paper that read, "Experienced Singer Seeks Band".
I received many calls. I began writing and recording immediately. And that led to this.
In short, the day I decided to be a musician was the day I became a musician.
If there is something you want to be, go be it. Everyone starts from the same place.

If you don’t do it today, tomorrow will be just like today, and one day you’ll be out of tomorrows.
Up north. This was the colour of the sky one sunset. This photo has not been retouched. The sky was afire.
One of my favourite live shots. Taken by Derek Mitchell of my second band. Derek is a very smart man. He had a perfect average in computer science at McMaster University for his first two years. I remember running in to him in year 3 by the faculty restaurant, and saying, “Hey man, still got that perfect average?”, to which he replied, “Naaah, 11.5 - GROUP WORK!”. A perfect mark at McMaster is a 12.
New York City. I’d just finished playing for LA Reid in which he signed me, and my then band mates, on the spot after playing 3 songs on an acoustic guitar in his office. Pat, my former band mate, was deathly afraid of heights. He took this picture sitting down after having passed out over my precarious position.
Hannah and I, out for a walk. She snapped this shot while I finished my apple. Later, we tried to hide from the owner of the property by scurrying around the hay bail while he booted around on an ATV. We thought we outfoxed him, only to discover him behind us as we were whispering, “I think he’s gone”.
Being made to look good on camera by friend Eleanora Dimakos. One must apply make-up to one’s face in order to look as though one isn’t wearing make-up. Such is life affront the camera.
Was taking pictures of the ocean. Saw this man in my periphery. Moments later I asked him if he’d caught anything. He was Chinese (I imagine he still is), and didn’t speak English (I imagine he still doesn’t). Snapped this shot - the only one - without thinking twice. Turned out well.
